OPTA-ZAN is a high purity xanthan gum specifically formulated to be used in the OPTA-FLO - DRILL-IN fluid as a viscosifier. Small quantities provide viscosity and weight material suspension for all water-based drilling fluids systems. OPTA-ZAN has the unique ability to produce a fluid that is highly shear-thinning and develops a true gel structure.

OPTA-ZAN is used to increase viscosity for cuttings transport and suspension. It provides an optimized rheology profile with elevated low-shear-rate viscosity (LSRV) and shear thinning characteristics with low “n” values which results in fluids with inverted flow properties, low effective viscosity for minimal pressure losses and standpipe pressure allows optimum hydraulics and maximized rates of penetration. Conversely, at the low-shear-rate experienced in the annulus, OPTA-ZAN enables the fluid to have a high effective viscosity for adequately cleaning the well and suspend cuttings.
As a clarified product OPTA-ZAN minimises formation damage.

Non damaging clarified xanthan gum.
The normal application is 0.25 - 2.0 lb/bbl (0.7 - – 5.7 kg/m3). For special applications such as high viscosity pills for hole cleaning sweeps up to 4 lb/bbl (11.4 kg/m3)may be required.
Effective up to 275 0F (135 0C). Above this temperature include oxygen scavengers in the formulation.
Efficacy is reduced in high salinity environments.
Needs shear and temperature to fully yield.

OPTA-ZAN is packaged in 25 kg (55 lb) or 50 lb (22.7 kg) multi-wall, paper sacks. Store in a dry location away from sources of heat or ignition.
